Going underground in Nevřeň
Under the surface of the earth, a different world comes to light – an UNDERGROUND world, marked by centuries of human activity. Would you like to know more?
Kaolin Mine in Nevřeň
You can take a tour of the former kaolin mine, featured in a famous fairy-tale film, in Nevřeň from April to October. The mine has about 1.3 km of underground corridors, 700 m of which you can see on the tour. Today, we can discover the work of our ancestors in the mine. Corridors that are up to 12 m tall and 8 m wide survive today. And the walls show visible signs of being dug by hand, and places of the ceiling are stained black, most likely burn marks from the carbide lamps used in those days to light the miners’ work.
